Asphalt is one of the most widely used coatings due to its durability, repairability and recyclability. Appropriate resistance, insulation and noise reduction have made asphalt mixtures to be used for road surface. Due to the high weight of the equipment and the high number of passes, extreme cold and heat, asphalt pavements need to be reinforced. Adding fibers to the asphalt mixture increases the shear and bending strength. It also increases the durability of the mixture against freezing and thawing cycles.
Iron and steel smelting plant slag is known as a type of waste. The use of this slag in the production of other different products improves their properties. According to the type of application, this slag is classified in different sizes and is widely used as an additive in cement, bitumen, concrete and asphalt. This substance changes the mechanical behavior of the composite materials that are added to them. In this study, the behavior of asphalt mixture in combination with steel slag with ratios of 05 and 155 percent is studied.
